And it\u2019s no longer just dominating the internet, it\u2019s dominating the living room, too.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p class=\"\">YouTube made up 9.7% of all viewership on connected and traditional TVs in the U.S. in May \u2014 the largest share of TV for a streaming platform\u00a0ever reported\u00a0by\u00a0Nielsen\u2019s monthly \u201cThe Gauge\u201d report.\u00a0Netflix\u00a0ranked second, claiming 7.6% of viewership. Among streamers only, YouTube\u2019s total viewership was close to 25% market share.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019re not talking about your mobile phone, your laptop, that I\u2019m sure you see your kids using all the time, but on the biggest screen in the house, the TV,\u201d said LightShed media analyst Rich Greenfield. \u201cEvery [media] executive has to be paying attention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">But media companies such as Netflix,\u00a0Disney\u00a0and\u00a0Warner Bros. Discovery\u00a0aren\u2019t sure whether YouTube is friend or foe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Some media executives see YouTube as a companion platform to subscription streaming services and cable TV \u2014 an unwieldy behemoth of non-narrative, creator-led content with a social media slant that doesn\u2019t really fit the New York-Hollywood nexus of professional media.
