{"id":1693,"date":"2024-07-18T11:36:08","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T11:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/18\/meet-the-rnc-delegates-who-have-adopted-trumps-bandage-for-their-own-ears\/"},"modified":"2024-07-18T11:36:08","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T11:36:08","slug":"meet-the-rnc-delegates-who-have-adopted-trumps-bandage-for-their-own-ears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/18\/meet-the-rnc-delegates-who-have-adopted-trumps-bandage-for-their-own-ears\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the RNC delegates who have adopted Trump\u2019s bandage for their own ears"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">MILWAUKEE \u2014 The hottest fashion accessory at the Republican National Convention is the ear bandage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">The bandage can be made of sturdy paper, of flimsy napkin, or of gauze and tape, but it must always be white, and always worn covering the right ear \u2014 exactly the way former president Donald Trump first appeared when he entered the convention hall Monday evening, his highly anticipated public debut following an assassination attempt at a rally just two days earlier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">In the most electrifying moment on the convention\u2019s opening night, Trump strode into Milwaukee\u2019s Fiserv Forum in his trademark dark suit and oversize red tie \u2014 and with a small white bandage affixed to his right ear, where he was injured in Saturday\u2019s shooting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">By the following day, a small cadre of Trump\u2019s most loyal supporters had begun sporting makeshift bandages on their right ears \u2014 in sympathy and support for Trump, several bandage-clad delegates explained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">\u201cIt\u2019s a new sign of unity within the party,\u201d said Joe Neglia, a Republican delegate from Arizona who says he was the first to make an ear covering out of white paper and affix it to the side of his head. \u201cWhen I saw him come out Monday night \u2014 that magical moment \u2014 I thought, \u2018I have to do something,\u2019 and this is what I could do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">On the convention hall floor, the Trump-inspired ear bandage is hardly as ubiquitous or iconic as, say, his trademark red Make America Great Again hats.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">But what started with Neglia and the Arizona delegation spread to other delegations, from Texas to Washington State.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">Neglia made his bandage Tuesday morning on the bus ride over to the convention, said Craig Berland, the chair of the Maricopa County GOP \u2014 but they didn\u2019t have any gauze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">So that night, Berland said, \u201cthe girls\u201d \u2014 other delegates traveling with them \u2014 went out to fetch gauze and tape. He estimates that at least half of Arizona\u2019s 40-plus-member delegation is now wearing bandages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">\u201cIt\u2019s a sign of solidarity,\u201d he said in an interview on the convention floor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">Liam Donovan, a Republican strategist attending the convention, said he was \u201cimpressed that American ingenuity responded so rapidly to fill this market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">\u201cBut for all the stylistic flourishes of the Trump era, from hats to sneakers, this one seems the most organic,\u201d Donovan said. \u201cIt was truly a surreal moment that people are still processing, and this is a recognizable show of solidarity in a meme-ified political moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">The Washington Post spotted about a dozen delegates wearing the self-fashioned bandages on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it was unclear how many total were in the cavernous arena. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the proliferation of bandages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">Texas delegate Jackson Carpenter \u2014 sporting matching Texas flag shirts and cowboy hats with the rest of the delegation \u2014 added the bandage to his ear when he learned another delegate was passing them out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">\u201cWe need a symbol about political violence not being acceptable in America,\u201d Carpenter said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wpds-c-heFNVF wpds-c-heFNVF-iPJLV-css overrideStyles font-copy\">And Zachary Landsdowne, a delegate from Washington State, said he had originally fashioned his homemade ear cover from Band-Aids he\u2019d brought from home in case he cut himself in Milwaukee.
