{"id":2780,"date":"2024-08-13T13:01:05","date_gmt":"2024-08-13T13:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/13\/bluesky-social-media-site-reports-surge-in-new-uk-users-after-elon-musks-riot-comments\/"},"modified":"2024-08-13T13:01:05","modified_gmt":"2024-08-13T13:01:05","slug":"bluesky-social-media-site-reports-surge-in-new-uk-users-after-elon-musks-riot-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/13\/bluesky-social-media-site-reports-surge-in-new-uk-users-after-elon-musks-riot-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"Bluesky: Social media site reports surge in new UK users after Elon Musk\u2019s riot comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Social media platform Bluesky says it has seen a surge in signups in the United Kingdom in recent days.<\/p>\n<p>Since X owner Elon Musk made controversial comments about the riots in the UK, a number of influential figures said they would leave the platform or scale back their use, including home office minister Jess Philips.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-site-outbrain sdc-site-outbrain--AR_6\">    <\/div>\n<p>Now, Bluesky says it has seen a 60% jump in general activity from accounts in the UK, with several MPs also joining the platform recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHello everyone here\u2026 another potential alternative to that other place\u2026,\u201d posted Labour MP Lewis Atkinson on the platform on Monday in his first post.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--teads\">        <\/div>\n<p>Musk was accused of exacerbating tensions after days of far-right rioting in Britain triggered by online misinformation around the murder of three girls in northern England last month.<\/p>\n<p>He <strong>began a spat with the prime minister<\/strong> when he posted saying civil war was \u201cinevitable\u201d in Britain, sparking calls for the government to roll out laws policing online content sooner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor 5 out of the last 7 days, the UK had the most Bluesky signups of any country,\u201d said Bluesky in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Bluesky?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bluesky is one in a long list of apps that have been looking to replace X after Elon Musk\u2019s chaotic takeover of the company in late 2022.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more from Sky News:<br \/>Northern lights and spectacular meteor shower make sky glow<\/strong><br \/><strong>Pregnant women urged to get vaccine<\/strong><br \/><strong>Two astronauts stuck in space \u2013 how will they pass time until 2025?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The platform was founded by then-Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, who created it while still in his role at the social media giant.<\/p>\n<p>Its format is similar to X, with a familiar timeline format.
