The judge and Musk have been feuding in public for months after X didn\u2019t comply with legal orders to block certain accounts accused of spreading fake news and hate.<\/p>\n
In the decision, the judge also ordered the payment of fines amounting to 18.5m reais (\u00a32.5m).<\/p>\n

The head of Brazil\u2019s telecom regulator Anatel has said it has received a court order to suspend X and is \u201cproceeding with the compliance\u201d.<\/p>\n
Brazil is an important market for X, which has struggled with the loss of advertisers since Mr Musk purchased the company in 2022.<\/p>\n
According to market research group Emarketer, about 40 million Brazilians \u2013 roughly 20% of the population \u2013 use the platform at least once a month.<\/p>\n
X had said it expected to be shut down<\/strong> by the judge \u201csimply because we would not comply with his illegal orders to censor his political opponents\u201d.<\/p>\n\u201cWhen we attempted to defend ourselves in court, Judge de Moraes threatened our Brazilian legal representative with imprisonment,\u201d the firm added.<\/p>\n

Mr Musk, a self-proclaimed \u201cfree speech absolutist\u201d, has repeatedly claimed the justice\u2019s actions amount to censorship.<\/p>\n
The judge\u2019s order is based on Brazilian law requiring foreign companies to have representation in the country so they can be notified when they face legal cases.<\/p>\n
His defenders have said the actions aimed at X have been lawful, supported by most of the court\u2019s full bench and served to protect democracy.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
