X owner Elon Musk is removing bold text from posts appearing on people\u2019s timelines because his \u201ceyes are bleeding\u201d, according to a new post.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to immediate and excessive use of bold font on X<\/strong>, it will be removed from view in the main timeline,\u201d he wrote in a post on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Users will have to \u201cclick on post details\u201d to see anything in bold, according to Mr Musk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He also said italics and \u201cany other formatting\u201d would be removed from timelines, as the formatting options were \u201cbeing abused for engagement farming\u201d.<\/p>\n

The announcement seemed to go down well with Mr Musk\u2019s followers, with one person saying: \u201cGlad to hear this. It was really diluting the timeline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Engagement farmers have been in Mr Musk\u2019s crosshairs for months.<\/p>\n

The term refers to accounts that get inflated social media engagement by manipulating users to click on their content without offering much value in return.<\/p>\n

In April, the X owner said he would \u201csuspend\u201d and \u201ctrace to source\u201d accounts found to be engagement farming, although he didn\u2019t give many details on how.<\/p>\n

Since the introduction of bold and other text formatting options in April 2023, they\u2019ve been used to grab even more attention by users trying to make money from people clicking on their posts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating when formatting is overused just for attention. It makes the content harder to read and enjoy,\u201d said an X user in response to Mr Musk\u2019s announcement.<\/p>\n

Sky News asked X for more information on the changes but hasn\u2019t received a response.<\/p>\n
