{"id":5683,"date":"2024-10-31T00:00:38","date_gmt":"2024-10-31T00:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/10\/31\/us-election-elon-musk-summoned-to-court-over-1m-giveaways-to-registered-voters\/"},"modified":"2024-10-31T00:00:38","modified_gmt":"2024-10-31T00:00:38","slug":"us-election-elon-musk-summoned-to-court-over-1m-giveaways-to-registered-voters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/10\/31\/us-election-elon-musk-summoned-to-court-over-1m-giveaways-to-registered-voters\/","title":{"rendered":"US election: Elon Musk summoned to court over $1m giveaways to registered voters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Elon Musk has been summoned to an emergency court hearing on Thursday over the $1m prizes he has been awarding registered voters in the swing state of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>The Tesla and X chief executive has been ordered by a judge in Philadelphia to address a civil case by the city\u2019s top prosecutor to stop <strong>Mr Musk <\/strong>and his political action committee, America PAC, from giving the cash away daily.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-site-outbrain sdc-site-outbrain--AR_6\">    <\/div>\n<p>The suit accuses Mr Musk of operating an illegal lottery and trying to influence voters in next week\u2019s presidential election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Musk and his PAC are backing Mr Trump, the Republican nominee.<\/p>\n<p>The controversial billionaire has said he is handing out the million-dollar cheques in an effort to persuade people to register to vote and to vote early.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--teads\">        <\/div>\n<p>America PAC is one of several major political action committees in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Such groups can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money in support of political candidates, on the condition that they do not coordinate with their campaigns or give money to them.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump has said he will give Mr Musk a government job if he becomes president again.<\/p>\n<p>Documents filed by Philadelphia\u2019s district attorney Larry Krasner also revealed that the lawsuit against Mr Musk had \u201ctriggered an avalanche of [social media] posts from Musk\u2019s followers,\u201d many of whom \u201cmade antisemitic attacks on Krasner\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney asked for enhanced security for the hearing, which was originally scheduled for Friday, after users on X had published Mr Krasner\u2019s home address.<\/p>\n<p><em>This breaking news story is being updated and more details will be published shortly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Please refresh the page for the fullest version.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You can receive breaking news alerts on a smartphone or tablet via the <strong>Sky News app<\/strong>.
