{"id":668,"date":"2024-06-01T00:02:34","date_gmt":"2024-06-01T00:02:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/01\/elon-musk-tesla-shareholders-urged-to-stop-chief-executives-excessive-56bn-payday\/"},"modified":"2024-06-01T00:02:34","modified_gmt":"2024-06-01T00:02:34","slug":"elon-musk-tesla-shareholders-urged-to-stop-chief-executives-excessive-56bn-payday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/01\/elon-musk-tesla-shareholders-urged-to-stop-chief-executives-excessive-56bn-payday\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk: Tesla shareholders urged to stop chief executive\u2019s \u2018excessive\u2019 \u00a356bn payday"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Tesla shareholders have been urged to vote against plans to pay its chief executive Elon Musk up to $56bn (\u00a344bn).<\/p>\n<p>The compensation package, if approved, would be the biggest ever for a chief executive in the US.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-site-outbrain sdc-site-outbrain--AR_6\">    <\/div>\n<p>However, proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) has warned the amount is \u201cexcessive\u201d and said it would not help <strong>Musk<\/strong> to \u201cfocus\u201d more on the company.<\/p>\n<p>It comes following concerns that the controversial billionaire has become distracted from running Tesla by his other business interests, including SpaceX and X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The electric carmaker has also been hit recently by <strong>falling revenue<\/strong>, <strong>product recalls<\/strong> and <strong>job cuts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--teads\">        <\/div>\n<p>Shareholders will vote on whether to approve Musk\u2019s payout at Tesla\u2019s annual general meeting on 13 June.<\/p>\n<p>They will also decide whether to reincorporate the company in Texas after a judge in Delaware, where Tesla is officially based, blocked a previous <strong>attempt to pay Musk the multi-billion figure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Other advisory proxies have also recommended that shareholders block the pay amount in the vote, which is being seen by some commentators as a referendum on Musk\u2019s leadership of the firm.<\/p>\n<p>The compensation package sets rewards based on Tesla\u2019s market value rising to as much as $650bn (\u00a3510bn) over the 10 years from 2018. The company is currently valued at nearly $570bn (\u00a3445bn).<\/p>\n<p>ISS said in a report that, although the compensation package arguably reflected \u201cthe company\u2019s significant financial growth,\u201d it also \u201cremains excessive, even given the company\u2019s success\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The advisers said the amount \u201cfailed to achieve the board\u2019s other original objectives of focusing CEO Musk on the interests of <strong>Tesla<\/strong> shareholders, as opposed to other business endeavours, and aligning his financial interests more closely with those of Tesla stockholders\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>ISS said there were also other concerns including \u201ca lack of clarity on the board\u2019s plan\u201d for Musk\u2019s future pay.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla has defended the plans and said Musk had generated wealth for stockholders because he has \u201cskin in the game\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In comments earlier this week, responding to similar criticism, the company said Musk had helped it achieve \u201cperformance targets that were regarded by many as extremely difficult or impossible\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It added: \u201cStockholders should care enormously about value creation\u2026. and not about whether Elon\u2019s perceived \u2018focus\u2019 was strong enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It comes after the company\u2019s quarterly revenue dropped in April for the first time in almost four years.<\/p>\n<p>Competition from China and <strong>slowing demand for electric vehicles <\/strong>have been blamed for the recent downturn in the firm\u2019s fortunes, along with controversies surrounding Musk.<\/p>\n<p>It came as Tesla announced on Friday a recall of more than 125,000 of its vehicles in the US to fix problems with seat belt warning systems.<\/p>\n<p>US officials said the alerts \u2013 which are supposed to inform and remind drivers if a seat belt is not fastened \u2013 were not going off as expected and did not comply with safety regulations, raising the risk of people getting injured during a crash.<\/p>\n<p>The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall included certain 2012-2024 Model S, 2015-2024 Model X, 2017-2023 Model 3, and 2020-2023 Model Y vehicles.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div>This post appeared first on sky.com<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla shareholders have been urged to vote against plans to pay its chief executive Elon&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":669,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-668","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/668","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=668"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/668\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/669"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=668"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=668"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=668"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
