{"id":912,"date":"2024-06-13T12:01:31","date_gmt":"2024-06-13T12:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/13\/nasa-accidentally-broadcasts-simulation-of-astronaut-in-distress\/"},"modified":"2024-06-13T12:01:31","modified_gmt":"2024-06-13T12:01:31","slug":"nasa-accidentally-broadcasts-simulation-of-astronaut-in-distress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/13\/nasa-accidentally-broadcasts-simulation-of-astronaut-in-distress\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA accidentally broadcasts simulation of astronaut in distress"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>NASA accidentally aired a medical drill meant for training on an official livestream which simulated an astronaut being treated for decompression sickness on the International Space Station (ISS) \u2013 prompting alarm on social media.<\/p>\n<p>The audio, which was broadcast on <strong>NASA<\/strong>\u2018s live YouTube channel, captured a female voice instructing crew members to \u201cget commander back in his suit\u201d, check his pulse and provide him with oxygen \u2013 with the prognosis later described as \u201ctenuous\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-site-outbrain sdc-site-outbrain--AR_6\">    <\/div>\n<p>Recordings of the audio quickly spread on social media, sparking fears of a serious emergency on the ISS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome very odd, and disturbing, audio just aired on the ISS YouTube feed,\u201d posted one person on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething is very not right about this,\u201d wrote another.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--teads\">        <\/div>\n<p>Decompression sickness, which is caused by nitrogen or other gas bubbles in the bloodstream due to a change in atmospheric pressure, can affect the central nervous system and is potentially fatal.<\/p>\n<p>However, NASA confirmed there was \u201cno emergency situation\u201d on the ISS and that the audio was inadvertently broadcast from a simulation where crew members and ground teams train for various scenarios in <strong>space<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no emergency situation going on aboard the <strong>International Space Station<\/strong>,\u201d NASA\u2019s ISS account posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>It said at around 5:28pm CDT (10.30pm GMT) \u201caudio was aired on the NASA livestream from a simulation audio channel on the ground indicating a crew member was experiencing effects related to decompression sickness (DCS)\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis audio was inadvertently misrouted from an ongoing simulation where crew members and ground teams train for various scenarios in space and is not related to a real emergency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crew members on the ISS were in their \u201csleep period\u201d at the time the drill on the ground inadvertently aired, it said.<\/p>\n<p>A spacewalk scheduled for 8am EDT on Thursday would go ahead as planned, NASA added.<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX also clarified that what people heard \u201cwas only a test\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The crew training in Hawthorne, <strong>California<\/strong>, were \u201csafe and healthy\u201d, it said.<\/p>\n<p>Space enthusiasts on Earth were relieved to learn what they had heard was a training exercise:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was our \u2018War of the Worlds\u2019 transmission.
