{"id":988,"date":"2024-06-19T00:03:03","date_gmt":"2024-06-19T00:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/19\/nvidia-overtakes-microsoft-to-become-worlds-most-valuable-public-company\/"},"modified":"2024-06-19T00:03:03","modified_gmt":"2024-06-19T00:03:03","slug":"nvidia-overtakes-microsoft-to-become-worlds-most-valuable-public-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tradetrovex.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/19\/nvidia-overtakes-microsoft-to-become-worlds-most-valuable-public-company\/","title":{"rendered":"Nvidia overtakes Microsoft to become world\u2019s most valuable public company"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Microsoft has been dramatically toppled as the world\u2019s most valuable public company.<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia, which had only overtaken <strong>Apple<\/strong> for the number two spot <strong>earlier this month<\/strong>, dethroned <strong>Microsoft<\/strong> during trading on Tuesday as its shares rose by more than 3%.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-site-outbrain sdc-site-outbrain--AR_6\">    <\/div>\n<p>The stock has risen more than 170% this year given the chipmaker\u2019s leading position in the artificial intelligence (AI) race with 80% of the processor market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Money latest:<\/strong><br \/><strong>Big inflation moment forecast for tomorrow<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The latest upward move took its market value to $3.326trn.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad--teads\">        <\/div>\n<p>It had hit $2trn in February.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s meteoric rise marks another milestone in the tech sector, which Apple had dominated since it launched the iPhone in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Apple only lost its crown to Microsoft earlier this year as worries over iPhone demand weighed on the stock.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s investment in ChatGPT-maker OpenAI at the same time was seen as beneficial for its shares as it took an early lead in generative AI.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts said demand for Nvidia\u2019s shares was boosted earlier this month by a stock split that created more shares and made them more attractive to individual investors.<\/p>\n<p>They had cost more than $1,000 each before the split on 7 June.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft\u2019s shares have risen just 19% in comparison during the year to date \u2013 a surge which would usually be seen as satisfactory but for Nvidia\u2019s enviable performance.<\/p>\n<p>Demand for the California-based firm\u2019s processors is exceeding supply while Microsoft, Meta Platforms and Google\u2019s owner spend big in the race to develop AI computing capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Market watchers said the rise in Nvidia\u2019s stock on Tuesday alone added more than $100bn to its market value.<\/p>\n<p>Sam North, an analyst at investment platform eToro, credited anticipation of the stock split \u2013 and the split itself \u2013 for the recent share price surge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA stock split can reduce the price per share, making it more affordable for individual investors to buy\u201d, he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Nvidia doing a 10:1 stock split, retail investors are the real winners here\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div>This post appeared first on sky.com<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has been dramatically toppled as the world\u2019s most valuable public company.
